Over the past two days, we talked about how our words affect others. We started with a freshly cut paper heart. Each scholar came up and said something mean to the heart and crumpled or ripped the paper. The heart was in a ball. We talked about how the heart looked and how it was feeling. Then each scholar said something nice to the heart and we uncrumpled part of the paper. We talked about how it was nice to apologize and say nice thing and discuss how the once fresh, smooth paper was not the same as in the beginning. I asked how they would feel if someone said those mean thing and how we feel after an apology. Today, we reviewed yesterday's activity and pledged to think before we speak and to only use nice words with each other. Each child created a "band-aid" to help fix the heart. Check out the Photo Gallery for some photos of our Wrinkled Heart activity.

Thank you to all of the parents that have signed up for Class Dojo and have connected to your scholar's account. If you have not connected yet and need help or have lost your scholar's code please let me know. Our Class Dojo information is used in conjunction with the School Wide Behavior Management (SWBM) system. Scholars need 5 points to move to blue. If they advance to blue for 5 consecutive days, they move to purple. After 2 weeks on purple, the scholar moves up to pink. On the reverse side, if your scholar loses 5 points, they move to yellow. If they lose 10 points, they move to orange. In this case a behavior documentation form may be filled out and sent to administration. If the behaviors continue, the scholar moves to red. At this point, administration will help develop a plan to change the behaviors. Your scholar's SWBM level will be marked in his/her agenda daily. On some days, I may include comments about the color level they have earned. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email ([email protected]), the Class Dojo app, or phone ((704)639-3000 ext. 315104).
Welcome parents and scholars to our classroom blog! You will find some classroom information, updates, and photos on this blog, as well as other information on the other pages connected to this site. I am so happy to be teaching kindergarten at Overton Elementary School. I have lots of exciting lessons and activities planned for this year and cannot wait to share our year full of learning.
We have completed our first 2 weeks of kindergarten and our scholars are now getting into the swing of things. We are practicing our rules and routines every day. This coming week we will officially start using Class Dojo! The points awarded and deducted correspond with our 7 Habits. On Friday, I sent home a special code with each scholar. Please download the Class Dojo app and use the special code for your scholar to gain access to their Dojo account. I will be able to communicate with you through the Dojo app. Homework will be starting this week. Please check your scholars backpack each night. There will be a folder and an agenda. The folder will contain the homework and the agenda will show what color they were on for our School Wide Behavior Management system. (To see more information about the School Wide Behavior Management system, please go to the Class Information tab.) The agenda and folder may also contain school information that has been sent home. I am so excited to see each scholar on Monday morning! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and returns to school ready for an awesome week full of learning! |
